About Us

The Equalities Charter for Film Programme for Action has been set up by the UK Film Council - the lead agency for film in the UK, ensuring that the economic, cultural and educational aspects of film are effectively represented at home and abroad.

The UK Film Council has established a Leadership on Diversity in Film network comprising 21 organisations from across the industry. In 2005, the 21 network members signed up to 6 Pledges forming the Equalities Charter for Film.

The objectives of our Equalities Charter for Film Programme for Action are to:

  • Track and demonstrate the progress being made towards achieving the 6 Charter pledges
  • Work collaboratively to achieve progress and share knowledge
  • Initiate projects and actions to overcome barriers to equality

There are three key features of our Programme for Action:

This enables our 21 member organisations to track their progress towards achieving each of the 6 Pledges and help identify priority actions for the coming year. It also provides an overview of the UK Film Industry’s current position on equality and diversity achievements and challenges.

  • The Diversity in Film website

Our aim is for this website to serve as a knowledge exchange and ideas support forum for our members and other participants interested in increasing diversity in film.

  • The Diversity in Film Innovation Fund

The UK Film Council has established the Diversity in Film Innovation Fund. This resource can be used as matched funding for projects initiated by members of the Equalities Charter for Film Programme for Action to support progress towards achieving the 6 Pledges.
